In Thank You M'am there are several themes. Themes are usually hidden messages in short stories, poems, etc. The theme I've chosen from Thank You M'am is if kids get trust and attention, they will make better decisions.
One example that supperts my theme is when Roger goes to Mrs. Luella Bates Jones house. He has the option of stealing her pocketbook and run but he decides not. He could make a dash for it down the hall. He could run, run, run, run! I believe he decided not to do that because he already had her trust and did not want to break it.
Knowing that he had her attention helped him make a better decision. One reason why I think that, is because if someone was standing next to you then you wouldn't want their attention if you were trying to do something that's against the law. If all he was looking for was attention then it would be unserstandable why he didn't just leave when he had the chance. Without Mrs. Luella Bates Jones didn't bother standing up to Roger, he probably would have kept stealing other people's money.
In conclusion, if kids get trust and attention then they'll make better decisions because they wouldn't want to break your trust. When kids get attention they tend to be shy and are aware of what they do. Yet there are some kids who like the attention or want it, so they'll do anything to have all eyes on them. Hopefully they don't do something bad to get attention.
